It appears that I have been “blog memed" by Patsi Krakoff, who was memed by Denise Wakeman who was memed earlier by Paul Chaney who was memed by Diva Toby Bloomberg. This seems to be a game going around the blogosphere where one reveals Five Things Most People Don't Know About Me.
A meme is like a thought or cultural virus that gets passed on, usually organically. In this case, the meme is getting passed around strategically by bloggers. It's a good way to introduce you to other blogger friends and for readers to learn more about you and the others already memed.
Here's the definition of a meme from Wiktionary:
- "Any unit of cultural information, such as a practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another. Examples might include thoughts, ideas, theories, practices, habits, songs, dances and moods and terms such as race, culture, ethnicity etc."
OK, here goes...5 Things You Probably Don't Know About Me
- As a kid, I spent all of my summers on a golf course – as a caddy. A caddy scholarship from the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association helped out with my tuition at Penn State.
- After I graduated from Penn State, I spent a year doing service. I was a VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) Volunteer – kind of like the domestic Peace Corps. I worked for a community organization in North Philadelphia, doing things like voter registration and Sickle Cell Anemia awareness and screening.
- I was an active rugby football player for over 30 years. I played my first match in 1968 and my last in 2001. That’s five decades. I’ve played in North America, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and New Zealand. Most of my best friends are rugby players.
- From 1972 till 1989 I was peripatetic. I lived in Philadelphia, Washington DC, San Francisco, Denver, Findlay OH, New Haven CT, Cambridge MA, New York City, Philadelphia again, and Taos NM. I settled in Denver for good in 1989.
- I am married to Cathy, the most wonderful woman in the world. She was a flight attendant for 36 years before retiring in 2004.
That’s five things about me – I’m tagging five Know More Media bloggers whose blogs I enjoy: Easton Ellsworth, Monica Flores, Jason Boog, Melissa Petri and Stan DeVaughn.
