Bob Parsons' -- Go Daddy CEO -- 16 Rules for Success
Yesterday, I did a post about Bob Parsons, founder of Go Daddy, the largest web domain name host in the world. I that post, I focused on Mr. Parsons’ advice for business branding. After I did the post, I spent some time on his blog, Hot Points, and came across his rules for success. I like these common sense rules, so I’m posting them here.
Bob Parsons 16 Rules for Success in Business and Life in General
- Get and stay out of your comfort zone.
- Never give up.
- When you’re ready to quit, you’re closer than you think.
- With regard to whatever worries you, not only accept the worst thing that could happen to you, but make it a point to quantify what the worst thing could be.
- Focus on what you want to have happen.
- Take things a day at a time.
- Always be moving forward.
- Be quick to decide.
- Measure everything of significance.
- Anything that is not managed will deteriorate.
- Pay attention to your competitors, but pay more attention to what you’re doing.
- Never let anybody push you around.
- Never expect life to be fair.
- Solve your own problems.
- Don’t take live too seriously.
- There’s always a reason to smile.
I particularly like rule 16 – there’s always a reason to smile. When I smile, I am more upbeat and productive. I try to focus on the possibilities inherent in each situation – not the negatives.
Try it – the next time you are feeling down, look for a reason to smile in the situation. When you find it, you’ll be well on your way to solving your problem.
By the way, you can purchase a poster with these 16 rules by logging on to Bob’s blog and following the link.

Oh yes, rule No 16!!!!!!!
It reminds me on second head operation. I was laying on the operation table, my hands and legs were tight for the table, my eyes were covered with black marama, and doctor was telling me all jokes he could remember to keep me relaxed. I was smiling during operation:-) Why? Well, Universe couldn't explain me better the paradox of life and I asked for it, so i get it.....A moment to remember:-)Well, the most I like in life is gooooood sense of humor:-)

Bud,
I enjoy your style! Though I have never met you, I hear the voice of Earl Nightingale in my head as I read your posts. That's a good thing!
I have blogged on many of your same topics including this one about Bob Parsons (March 16, 2007).
What a great philosophy he has!
I have bookmarked your blog and plan to stay in touch.
Best regards,
Daniel Sitter

Thanks for the comments, Ina and Dan.
Ina, when I was having my cancer surgery, I remember being wheeled into the operating room. Then, the nurses attached two side panels to the bed for the anesthetic. This reminded me of the photos I have seen of the chambers where they execute people via lethal injection. I remember joking with the nurse saying, "are you going to operate on me, or execute me?" The next thing I remember was waking up in the recovery room. I was proud of myself for keeping my sense of humor (albiet a somewhat bizarre sense of humor) in that situation.
Dan, thank you very much for comparing me to Earl Nightingale. I checked out your blog and really liked it. I plan on becoming a regular reader.
All the best,
Bud
