Bob Parsons on Business Branding

The April 2007 issue of Speaking, the trade publication of the National Speakers Association, has a picture of Bob Parsons on the cover.  Mr. Parsons is the founder of Go Daddy, a web domain registration company.  Go Daddy has more than 19,000,000 names under management, and over 35% of the domain registration market.  I register all of my domain names www.BudBilanich.com; www.CommonSenseCoach.com; www.CommonSenseKeynotes.com; www.LeadershipCommonSense.com; www.4SecretsBook.com; with Go Daddy.  Go Daddy is inexpensive, fast and accurate.  They provide great service and excellent value.

In a sidebar to the article called What Would Bob Do? Mr. Parsons answers the question: How can you apply Bob’s style of brand recognition to your business, regardless of budget constraints?  There is some great common sense advice in his answers, so I’m posting them here.

Bob Parsons on Brand Recognition

  • Work hard to please your customers.  Right now, Go Daddy has four million customers, who are our biggest evangelists.  70% of business is word of mouth.
  • People like to hear concrete examples of what has been done and the trials and tribulations of doing so.  Be honest and talk about your experiences and what led to your successes and failures – and the impact of those experiences.
  • If you want to market a specific product, you have to sell something you love and have passion for.  The rest will take care of itself.
  • Customer-centric companies are the trend.  Your customers will tell you everything you need to know.  Your most complaining customer is your most valuable customer; because that person will tell you, free of charge, what you need to change to please everyone.
  • Electronic medial is an incredible way to promote your brand.  Post a blog.  It’s inexpensive and right now, everyone can have the same exposure.  Of course, getting people to pay attention is another challenge.
