Good Leaders Ask Good Questions
I saw an interesting article on leading with questions the other day. It listed several questions leaders can use to get people to think, and to show them that their opinions are valued. I think it is a good list, so I am posting it here.
Leading With Questions
- What upset you today?
- What takes too long to accomplish?
- What caused customer complaints today?
- What was misunderstood today?
- What costs too much?
- What gets wasted?
- What do we do that is just too complicated?
- What do we do that is just plain silly?
- What jobs involve too many people?
- What jobs involve too many actions?
These types of questions let the people you lead know that you value their opinion – and they can help you identify and solve execution problems in your organization. Try them and see how the answers can assist you in improving productivity and your bottom line.

I would add one thing to the title of the article: "Good Leaders ask Good Questions SINCERELY." I have seen too many actors and hucksters put on a show for their subordinates. Once they've suckered the workforce into believing that they actually care about what the employees have to say, they turn away. Never think for a moment that employees that don't see this and remember.
