I often write about the power of one – how one person can do something that can make a difference. Today, that one person is Cathy, my wife...
Cathy is a volunteer reading tutor at a local elementary school. She spends a couple of days a week helping second graders read better. Today was her last day at her school before the holidays.
Being the generous person she is, Cathy took a book on learning to read as a gift to the teacher and the entire class. She also took one plastic cane, filled with red and green m&ms, for each of the 20 students in the class.
All of the kids were excited. However, she was particularly touched by one little boy who told her that his dad said there was no money for Christmas presents this year, and he wouldn’t be getting any – pretty tough stuff for a second grader to hear. When I was in second grade, I probably still believed in Santa Claus.
This particular little boy said, “Thank you Miss Cathy. This will be the only present I’ll get this year. I’m going to save it till Christmas Day to open it.” Cathy arrived back at home with tears in her eyes.
The point I want to make here is simple. You never know when a simple act of kindness on your part can mean a great deal in the life of someone. The Power of One is real. People are making a difference everyday.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading. For more common sense advice, log on to my website www.BudBilanich.com.
I’ll see you around the web, and at Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

PS What have YOU done for your career today?
Bud, this is a good story to illustrate the Power of One. I plan to work it into my blog for volunteerism. Thank you,
