I've been rereading some of the early writers on success -- people like Dale Carnegie (How To Win Friends and Influence People) and Napoleon Hill (Think and Grow Rich). In my last post, I mentioned Dale Carnegie's Six Ways to Make People Like You.
In this post, I'm presenting an updated version of Napoleon Hill's ideas. I've put his ideas into the context of small business...
In Think and Grow Rich, Mr. Hill describes the importance of a Master Mind Group -- a group of people who can advise you and help you develop and implement your plans for success.
Here is my update on Mr. Hill's ideas for 21st century entrepreneurs...
- Create a Master Mind Group. This is a group of people who can advise and help you build a successful business.
- Make the members of your Master Mind Group your partners. Give them something of value. For example, I am part of a Master Mind Group for a start up. When I joined the Master mind Group, the owners gave me several thousand shares of the company. These shares have no value now. However, when and if the owners sell the company, I will share in the profits from the sale.
- Meet with your Master Mind Group as frequently as possible. Solicit and use their advice.
- Stay on good terms with your Master Mind Group. Napoleon Hill describes this as maintaining perfect harmony with every member of your Master Mind Group.
These are good ideas. Every business person needs advice. Creating, nurturing and using the advice of your own Master Mind Group will speed you on your way to a successful business.
