Last week I was in Tennessee. When I returned to my hotel one evening, I realized that my computer’s power cord was shot. It wasn’t giving me any power. My battery was at about 35% of capacity and I had several hours of work I needed to do. It was about 7:15 in the evening. I had a problem…
I opened the Yellow Pages and found Alpha Omega Custom Computers in Sevierville. I called Alpha Omega. Jim Kershner, the owner answered the phone. I explained my problem and told him I have an IBM ThinkPad T42 machine. He said “I was just getting ready to leave, but if you come in, I can help you out”.
I jumped in the car and headed over to Alpha Omega. Jim was there waiting for me. He had a used power cord and adapter that he sold to me to $35. It was the best $35 I’ve ever spent. I went back to my hotel and finished up the project I needed to have done by the next morning.
The common sense point here – the best way to build strong relationships with your customers is to go out of your way for them – even if it seems like a one time deal.
Jim doesn’t know I write this blog, and didn’t know I would do a positive post about his service. He just went out of his way to help me out – and for that I’m very appreciative.
So here’s a shout out to Jim and to all of you folks who, like Jim, go out of your way to help out your customers. Keep it up – it’s only common sense.
And, if you’re ever in Sevierville, TN and need some computer help give Jim a call.

PPS: I thought I was being clever with the title of this post. I'll send a copy of one of my books (your choice) to the first person who correctly guesses why I titled this post the way I did.
