Recently, I came across some advice called how to fail – successfully. This advice comes from John Herman, author of The Innkeeper Tales, former business turnaround specialist and current owner of the Abacrombie, a well known Baltimore bed and breakfast.
Mr. Herman has three tips for how to fail – successfully.
- Don’t be a “skeptator”. Both a skeptic and a spectator, skeptators are not willing to risk their necks on something that might not work out, so they stand on the sidelines of life. If you harbor this kind of attitude, you’ll miss out on much that life has to offer, as well as what you have to offer the world.
- Roll with the punches. You have two choices when you have failed at a task, a business or even a relationship – give up and never try again, or take what you’ve learned from the situation and apply it to your next adventure. It’s your choice.
- Failure is never fatal. It is merely another step along the path to achievement and personal fulfillment. Don’t make it a habit to do things badly, but allow yourself to fail once in a while with the knowledge that isn’t the end of the world.
Pretty good common sense advice from John Herman. I particularly like what he has to say about not being a skeptator.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading. Log on to my website www.BudBilanich.com for more common sense. Check out my other blog: www.CareerSuperStar.com for common sense advice on becoming a success in your life and career.

Great tips! I love the term Skeptator and think the description is spot on.
