The folks at Accenture consulting have come up with what they call “Four Outlooks” that are common to companies that become the best at what they do.
This study got my attention, because I am always interested in being the best and helping my client companies be their best. Here’s what Accenture has to say about being the best.
- Refuse to let industry conditions drag you down. Leading companies stay a step ahead of their competitors despite sector conditions. Think Toyota and their relentless focus on continuous improvement.
- Be the right size, not necessarily the biggest. Size sometimes translates to a dominant position, but not always. The real keys are increasing performance and profitability. Organizations that grow through acquisition often find themselves struggling.
- Be willing to move toward higher performance. Successful organizations strive to improve, even though the benefits may not be felt until the future.
- Don’t accept the status quo. “We are doing well enough,” is the kind of thinking that gets organizations stuck.
This is some great common sense advice. I particularly like number 3 – “move towards higher performance”. Complacency is the enemy of excellence. Chances are somebody is out there right now, doing what you do, and doing it better.
If you don’t continually improve, you will not stand still, you will fall behind. In business, there is no standing still. You either go forward, or you fall behind.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading. Log on to my website www.BudBilanich.com for more common sense. Check out my other blog: www.SuccessCommonSense.com for common sense advice on becoming the career and life success you are meant to be.
I’ll see you around the web, and at Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
